Toledo city in spain

Undoubtedly Spain is a paradise for tourists. This is a hard reality which every visitor to Spain has experienced. The country is blessed with beautiful nature, pleasant climate and buildings which are unbelievably challenging works of architecture. The number of places which are of interest for tourists is highest in Spain compared to any other country in the entire Europe. Now, let us visit the province ‘Toledo’ and visit some of the places of interest for tourists.

Toledo is an amazingly beautiful city. It has a rich tradition and is a popular pilgrimage too. The festival of Most Holy Corpus Christi attracts huge number of devotees from Europe and other parts of the world. The city has many churches and mosques which receive many visitors throughout the year.

The city is very well fortified by huge walls. There are three gates representing the city cultures namely Jews, Arabs and the Christians. Each gate is named after one of these three religious faiths. These gates were built centuries ago. The entrance to the city is luxuriously decorated. Once you enter the city, the amazingly beautiful picturesque nature offers you a warm welcome.

Now we are in the market place of Toledo. This is a very busy location of Toledo. If you have a fascination for shopping, there is no better place than Toledo to shop. Fabulous textiles, works of art and artifacts, intricate works of sculpture are some of the many products that are available in the Toledo market.

The other place of interest is the Mosque. The Cristo de la Luz mosque believed to have been built in the year 999 has the most stunningly beautiful structure. This mosque is a replica of the mosque in Cordoba. In the 12th century, Mudejar sanctuary was built as an annex to the mosque. Both the exterior and the interior of the mosque are beautifully decorated in the traditional Arab style with most intricate works of art and sculpture.

Now we move further to visit the Mudejar Cathedral. Although there are no records to establish when the cathedral was built, it is believed that it has been built on an existing mosque. The tower of the cathedral which resembles a minaret of the Mosque suggests this presumption. The cathedral is a beautiful structure with an eye catching bell tower. The interior of the cathedral is lavishly decorated. Most of the visitors never miss visiting this cathedral and its museum. The five naves which were added during the 15th century is another interesting area which should never be missed.
